Hypertension

There were 35 million Office Visits for Hypertension in 2000. Seventy-five percent of women aged 75 and over have hypertension, while only 64 percent of men aged 75 do. Hypertension is also most prevalent in the African American population.*

*23% of Americans ages 20-74 have hypertension (high blood pressure), which causes 23,761 deaths annually.

There are ways to help control hypertension. According to the Heart, Lung and Blood Institute, limit your alcohol use by having no more than one drink per day. Other suggestions include using less salt, being physically active, and losing weight.** Enrolling In MedicAlert services will provide peace of mind for people with hypertension.
