MedicAlert® to offer free Personal Health Records to families of deployed Military Personnel and Returning Injured Troops In Partnership with Northern California’s Operation Homefront

Turlock, CA. January 17, 2007.  MedicAlert a pioneer in medical emergency information services will provide free Personal Health Records to the families of deployed service members  and returning wounded military personnel in partnership with the Sacramento Chapter of Operation Homefront, a national nonprofit that provides emergency support to military troops.   Operation Homefront offers programs in the areas of emergency services, educational services, and morale programs with a goal to make a difference in the quality of life for military personnel and their families.  MedicAlert and Operation Homefront will initially launch this pilot project in Northern California with plans to expand the scope nationwide.

Through this program, all families of currently deployed and any returning critically injured military personnel in the region that apply through Operation Homefront Sacramento will receive a free MedicAlert membership that includes a Personal Health Record (PHR) maintained in a secure database, personalized stainless steel bracelet, pendant, or dog-tag, emergency member wallet card, and our 24-hour Emergency Response and Family Notification services.

“Our military troops are on the front lines serving and protecting us each day.  We must not forget the sacrifices made by our troops and their families, and we hope to make a difference in their lives by providing Personal Health Record services,” said Paul Kortschak president and CEO of MedicAlert Foundation.

"Operation Homefront is committed to emergency support and morale to our military troops, the families they leave behind during deployment and wounded warriors when they return home," said Keith Anthony, Sacramento Chapter President. "Working with MedicAlert, our troops and their families will be able to efficiently manage important health information and improve the quality of care they receive."

“The Military takes the welfare of its personnel and their families very seriously once their needs are brought to their attention,” said Dave Jenest, Senior Administrator of the Sacramento Operation Homefront Chapter that cover 52 of California’s 58 counties. “Implementation of those needed services is no easy task given the size of the Department of Defense and its multiple agencies.  The addition of MedicAlert to our organization’s arsenal of immediate services available to wounded troops and military families is no less than phenomenal. Knowing that their families back home can be more secure through the program will boost our troop’s morale immeasurably while they serve our grateful nation. We will use our best technology to fast track and deliver MedicAlert’s patriotic generosity,” concludes Jenest. Operation Homefront Sacramento Inc. will streamline the application and validation process through its website www.ohsac.net
